CBD-infused products

From cocktails and chocolates to medicine, CBD is now a top ingredient for any industry. The commercialization of CBD has made it a prominent feature in every category of any store that you browse through. And the beauty and wellness industry is its biggest corner. According to a 2019 report by Market Watch, the global CBD cosmetics market was valued at over $580 million, an estimate that is expected to become about $1.7 billion by 2025. Serums, scrubs, sunscreens, lubes, lotions, mascara, and cleansers are some of the most popular CBD-infused items in the beauty category. But, before you start grabbing everything labeled ‘CBD’ at the store, how much do you know about the ingredient and its benefits? And how well can you incorporate it into your general skincare routine? Let’s give you a breakdown to get started.

First things first -What is CBD?

For those who aren’t familiar with CBD, you are more likely to know its parent plant ‘Cannabis,’ commonly referred to as Marijuana. Short for Cannabidiol, CBD is one of over 80 compounds extracted from the cannabis Sativa plant. These compounds are called cannabinoids, and another common one is Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is known for causing the ‘high’ or ‘stoned’ feeling associated with its mind-altering properties. CBD, on the other hand, is a non-intoxicating naturally occurring chemical compound. Therefore, when cannabis use was at an all-time high, before the legalization and advanced medical research we have had in the past few decades, it was primarily due to THC consumption. As scientists and medical researchers began to uncover more and more benefits that the low-THC strains of cannabis had on overall health, the rave for CBD began to pick up the pace.

Why is it so popular?

When the legalization of marijuana started in North America, CBD slowly began to receive popularity. Mainly because it cannot get you high. Its other benefits also became more mainstream knowledge and people began to view the cannabis compound as just another vitamin that can serve multiple purposes. The benefits of cannabis as an anti-inflammatory agent, and its component vitamins like vitamins A, D, and E, as well as fatty acids, made the introduction of CBD products into the food, beverage, and wellness industries a no-brainer.

As the legalization of cannabis in the United States continues to increase, with medical marijuana legalized in over 30 states and recreational cannabis legalized in about 10 states, including Washington D.C., cannabis consumption has increased exponentially. Research is continuously revealing the likelihood of CBD being used in the treatment of everything from treatment-resistant epilepsy and breast cancer to anxiety. As the beauty industry continues to search for skin care treatments that keep the human skin looking naturally young vibrant, with none of the harmful side effects of some chemically-generated treatments, the enticing attributes of CBD make it a game-changer.

CBD and Skincare

The process of extracting the CBD compound for other production processes usually starts with the hemp plant because of its low THC content. That way, the chances of intoxication or mind-alteration from consuming any CBD-infused product are low to none. The compound is extracted in powder form from the leaves, stems, and other parts of the hemp plant and then processed into other forms, such as CBD oil. CBD oil is a mixture created from extracted CBD and olive/coconut oil.

● Scientists keep finding more evidence that CBD can be used to treat dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis, which explains why it has become a prominent ingredient in so many serums and face/body creams. The cannabinoid has proven to be effective in the treatment of acne and wrinkles and it is a great choice of treatment for sensitive skin.

● CBD helps to fight inflammation, reduce scarring, soothe pain, and it does so much more. And the best part is, it is near-impossible for you to have a reaction when using CBD, with the exception that you are reacting to another ingredient in the product.

● CBD’s components make it an effective ingredient, especially when you need to get products directed at skin sensitivity.

Incorporating CBD-based products into your skincare routine

From everything we have discussed so far, there is no doubt that adding CBD into your skincare routine is a great choice! However, when it comes to how you add it, that’s where you need to exercise caution. First and foremost, we have to mention that a skincare product claiming to be CBD-infused doesn’t necessarily mean that it is safe to use. You should do proper research on any CBD-infusion brand you want to patronize and be sure that they are legally compliant and practice harm-free manufacturing. Additionally, you don’t have to chuck out your entire vanity full of products to be replaced with CBD-based products right off the bat. You don’t want your skin to go into shock and create blisters everywhere. Now that the cautions are out of the way, how do you add CBD into your skincare routine?

There are as many methods and techniques in using CBD for better skin, as there are CBD-based skincare products.

● You can eat CBD-infused edibles that aid sleep. After all, better sleep equals better skin, and the CBD throws in some extra antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.

● Use CBD Oil with a diffuser or get a CBD mask to soothe your pores while staying indoors or getting ready for bed.

● Apply CBD-infused eye balm to plump and brighten under-eye skin, even out skin tone, and rejuvenate tired skin.

● CBD-based cleansers clear out your pores and regulate oil production while acting as an anti-inflammatory agent. You can also get CBD moisturizers to protect your skin in day-to-day activities.

Final Thoughts

CBD-based products will positively change your skincare game and make you feel rejuvenated round the clock. There may be different ingredients that could be triggered by a sudden switch. If you are currently on a skincare regimen, you can start small with replacing something like a cleanser before ending with the big deals like sunscreen. Go with brands that are credible in the CBD & Beauty industry and remember not to make any drastic changes to your skincare regimen without consulting your dermatologist.
